Reportedly, Anthony Schlegel, a former Ohio State linebacker, is returning to assist the football program during winter workouts. He will be stepping in temporarily to aid the strength and conditioning team while another coach undergoes surgery.
Schlegel, aged 42, previously worked with Ohio State’s strength and conditioning staff from 2011 to 2015. He also held a similar role with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 under head coach Urban Meyer. During his time as a Buckeye, Schlegel played in 12 games in 2005, amassing 82 tackles, including 43 solo tackles, two sacks, and one defended pass. Hailing from University Park, Texas, he was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
In his NFL career spanning two seasons, Schlegel played for both the Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals, making five starts in 17 games and recording 38 tackles along with one quarterback hit. His return, albeit temporary, adds to recent staff changes that include Bill O’Brien joining as offensive coordinator and Matt Guerrieri coaching safeties. With Coach Ryan Day adjusting his staff, further additions may be forthcoming. Outside of football, Schlegel owns a fitness company named Schlegel Hardcore Elite Training.
