According to Give Me Sport, Birmingham City is in the running to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson, along with Leeds United, Southampton, and Ipswich Town.
Following Andre Dozzell of QPR’s loan acquisition last week, manager Tony Mowbray will look to recruit a few more players before the Blues enter a pivotal second half of the season.
It would take some persuading to convince Manuel Benson to move to St Andrew’s, as the Blues are now 20th in the league while the other interested parties are in the top four slots.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri said yesterday that a new round of talks between the sides had taken place, with further specifics to come. Leeds United appears to be the most eager party thus far.
Give Me Sport reports that Leeds may not be able to acquire Benson given the renewed interest from the Blues and Ispwich.
Before joining Burnley in August 2022, the 26-year-old Belgian winger played for Genk and subsequently Royal Antwerp. The winger scored 11 goals and provided three assists in Burnley’s championship-winning season, despite only starting 14 of his 33 games. Six of those goals were from outside the penalty area.
Similar to Siriki Dembele of Birmingham, who cuts in on his right foot from the left, Benson enjoys being direct on the right wing and cutting in on his left foot for a shot at goal.
It’s no secret that Benson would be a great addition to a dynamic and direct Tony Mowbray team, even though it may be doubtful that the Blues will acquire him. Potential new additions may choose to come to St Andrew’s because of the club’s excitement and new ownership.
Blues supporters, can Birmingham City sign Manuel Benson?
