The White Sox starter is too pricey, according to the Braves general manager.
Dylan Cease signed a very modest $8 million contract this season to avoid arbitration, but the trade market value of his services is quite high.
Earlier this offseason, general manager Chris Getz also conceded to that view.
“We’ve talked about Dylan Cease, but I also know that we’re not going to move a player like Dylan or anyone else unless we believe we’ll benefit,” Getz said on a Zoom call with reporters earlier this offseason. “It’s got to be a right fit for certainly all parties.”
Now we have confirmation from the competing general managers.
Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos recently spoke with 680 The Fan radio station in Atlanta. During his interview, a fan outside the room flashed a “Trade for Cease” sign at him from his phone. Anthopoulos reacted comically to the wishing sign.
“We’ve already tried! We’ve previously tried. Too pricey, too expensive,” Anthopoulos yelled through the glass, using his fingers to make the ubiquitous money sign.
