Tommy McDermott has signed a contract with Burnley, a Premier League team, for an unknown sum, according to Port Vale FC.
The 18-year-old, who came through the Vale youth system, signed his first professional deal with the Valiants in the summer of 2022. He later made nine appearances for the first squad in all competitions.
Dave Flitcroft, Director of Football at Port Vale FC, commented on McDermott’s departure:
Tommy was the first player from our academy to be offered a professional contract at the beginning of the previous season since I joined the team.
We leased Tommy away so he could receive playing time because we didn’t have a U21s team. Tommy hasn’t had the same level of success with the loan car that James Plant had. Tommy now has the chance to further his development at Burnley’s U21 system thanks to the agreement. We believe that both the club and he are getting a good bargain here.
“We wish Tommy all the best with his future and will be monitoring the success of this deal.”
Tommy has the greatest wishes for a successful future in football from everyone associated with Port Vale FC.
